Saurabh Kalia was an officer of the Indian Army who was killed during the Kargil War while being held as a prisoner of war by the Pakistan Army.

On May 15, 1999, Captain Saurabh Kalia of the 4 Jat Regiment was murdered by an enemy that knows no ethics and blatantly disregards human rights. Captain Saurabh Kalia and five soldiers of the same regiment were encircled by Pakistan troops and captured alive.
“My fight is not only for Saurabh or the five soldiers but for the respect and honour of the Indian Armed Forces,” he added. ... He was given the highest wartime gallantry award Param Vir Chakra posthumously, his father received the honour for his deceased son.
