Milkha Singh, also known as The Flying Sikh, was an Indian track and field sprinter who was introduced to the sport while serving in the Indian Army. He is the only athlete to win gold at 400 metres at the Asian Games as well as the Commonwealth Games. He also won gold medals in the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games.

Avtar Singh Sandhu
The 131-page autobiography written in Punjabi has examples of such prose throughout the book and it had emerged years later that Punjabi poet Pash whose real name was Avtar Singh Sandhu had written this autobiography at the insistence of Milkha Singh.
The then Pakistan President Ayub Khan organised an Indo-Pak Meet in 1960 at Lahore where the 200m event virtually became a two-horse race with two legendary athletes -- Milkha and Khaliq - competing.
