Ratan Naval Tata is an Indian industrialist, philanthropist, and a former chairman of Tata Sons. He was also chairman of Tata Group, from 1990 to 2012, and again, as interim chairman, from October 2016 through February 2017, and continues to head its charitable trusts.

Ratan Tata is the son of Naval Tata and Sooni Commissariat When his parents were separated he was formally adopted by his grandmother and widow of Sir Ratanji Tata Navajbai Tata through the J N Petit Parsi Orphanage.
In 1945 Tata Group established the Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO) to manufacture engineering and locomotive products; it was renamed Tata Motors in 2003. In 1991 J.R.D.'s nephew, Indian business mogul Ratan Tata, succeeded him as chairman of the Tata Group.09-Dec-2021
