Despite being grievously injured, Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav charged towards the second bunker along with seven soldiers. The bunker was captured but only Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav survived with 15 bullet injuries, two hand-grenade wounds and an arm hanging from tendons and skin," it added.
Yogender Singh Yadav was just 16 years and 5 months old when he joined the Army. His father, Karan Singh Yadav was part of the Kumaon regiment and fought the 1965 and 1971 wars. His younger brother, Jitender Yadav is also part of Indian army now. The Param Vir Chakra award was announced for Yogender posthumously.
Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav was martyred in retaliatory firing by the enemy on the evening of July 5th 1999.
